Roop Durgapal is back with a new web series called Sankalp, directed by Prakash Jha. In the show, she plays the wife of Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub’s character.
Roop shared that she was doing theatre and preparing for a play when she got a call to audition for this project. She immediately said yes because it was a Prakash Jha project, and she always wanted to enter the web space. The strong cast, including Nana Patekar, Sanjay Kapoor, and Neeraj Kabi, made the project even more exciting for her. She also felt it was great to be paired opposite Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub.
Talking about her role, Roop said she plays Madhuri, a simple and intelligent woman from Bihar. Her character is married to an IPS officer and is very supportive and understanding of her husband’s tough job. She is strong, educated, and stands by him in every situation.
Before the shoot, Roop met Prakash Jha, who guided her with a few important tips. She also used her theatre experience to prepare for the role. She did research to understand the lives of IPS officers’ wives and their struggles. Roop even created a special music playlist to connect better with her character. She said it was a beautiful process as the role was very different from her earlier work.
Roop also shared her experience of working with Nana Patekar. She said it was amazing, especially because her first scene in the series was with him. It was an intense scene, but she surprisingly did not feel nervous. She mentioned that Nana sir was very supportive and helped her during the shoot by maintaining the same energy even during her close-up shots. Both he and Prakash Jha were happy with her performance.
Talking about web content, Roop said she never felt uncomfortable or worried about bold scenes or language in this project. She believes in choosing work that matches her values and personality. According to her, if an actor is not comfortable, it shows on screen, so it’s important to respect personal boundaries.
Roop also said that she was not really away from work. She was doing short films and a feature film which will release soon. During this time, she also focused on herself—worked on her singing, practiced yoga, travelled, and went on treks. She believes that experiencing life is very important for an actor, as it helps them grow both personally and professionally.
