‘Still Waters,’ the first single from globally renowned American pianist and composer Chad Lawson’s new album was released to a rousing reception. The track is part of his spiritually resonant album ‘Awakening: The Stillness Within,’ which Vedam Records, the wellness music label of Universal Music Group India, will release next month.
‘Still Waters,’ as the name suggests, evokes serene quietude and invites listeners to immerse themselves in meditative and restorative peace. The aural texture and harmonic layers Lawson created seamlessly bridge Eastern and Western melodic traditions to create a soothing yet powerful listening experience. The album was created in collaboration with Decca Records (USA) and this particular track features acclaimed flautist Rasika Shekar.
Discussing the track, Chad Lawson says, “Still Waters came from a place of listening more than playing. Nothing was overplanned. It was about showing up, responding in the moment, and letting the music find its own way. Working alongside Rasika Shekar opened something up. A deeper trust in space, in silence, in not forcing anything. That felt connected to something much older than either of us, and it was beautiful. This track is about sitting with something instead of trying to fix it. Letting it settle. And realizing the quiet was already there. I smile every single time I hear this song as it brings me back to that moment of creative peace during the recording.”
The track gives an insight into the eagerly awaited album where emotive piano notes come together with Indian instruments, sacred mantras, and healing frequencies to create a profound sonic experience.
Talking about the collaboration, Faustin Missier, Business Head- Vedam Records shares, “Vedam Records exists to create music rooted in stillness and healing, and Chad Lawson felt like a natural extension of that space—his way of creating is intuitive, deeply present, and aligned with what we stand for. ‘Still Waters’, shaped in the moment with Rasika Shekar, is exactly that—no overthinking, just trust, silence, and allowing the music to arrive. It’s a quiet but powerful glimpse into Awakening: The Stillness Within, out May 8.”
